One step at a time
Taking it one step at a time, was how quadriplegic Mark Charlesworth, conquered walking 550 steps to the top of Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium Archway recently.
After surviving a serious car accident in 2004, Mark was told he had broken his neck and would never walk again. Determined not to accept the Dr’s prognosis Mark spent the last 7 years in physiotherapy, gym and occupational therapy in the hope that he would walk again. It has been a long road to recovery but Mark now uses a walker to be mobile, enjoys driving an automatic car and even runs his own IT company.
He decided to walk the 550 steps to the archway to raise funds for various charities as a way of saying thank you for all the support he has received over the last 7 years. Money raised went to QASA, the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Fund, the Highway Hospice and VEMA.
Well done Mark, what an amazing achievement – we are so proud of you!
